NASCAR moves up start time of Bristol Cup race

The start time of the Food City 500 has been moved up an hour to 1 p.m. ET (Fox).

The start time for Sunday’s Monster Energy Series NASCAR Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway has been moved up by an hour because of the threat of rain.

NASCAR announced Saturday that the Food City 500 race will start at 1 p.m. ET (Fox), instead of the scheduled start time of 2 p.m. The green flag was originally set for 2:13 p.m.

The decision was made after the race-day forecast showed a 90 percent chance of precipitation with thunderstorms, followed by a 60 percent chance of showers into Sunday night, per the National Weather Service.

The event must reach the halfway point to be official. If the race is not held Sunday, it likely will be rescheduled for Monday when there is a 30 percent chance of showers.

Kyle Busch will start on the pole.
