My players heeded to my instructions to defeat Kano Pillars, says Rivers United's Eguma

Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma says his players heeding instructions helped them to a 2-1 home victory over Kano Pillars at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

Guy Kuemian's second-half strike helped the Pride of Rivers subdue Sai Masu Gida after Junior Lokosa's effort cancelled Bakary Bamba's strike in the first half.

And the gaffer, who insisted that his side were not at their best, applauds his players for executing instructions, more importantly in the second half of the encounter.

"Yea, we have watched our opponents at the end of the first half. We saw their loopholes and also saw the areas they were giving us problem," Eguma told Goal.

"And I told my players that we have to up our game and cover those loopholes. They heeded those instructions and that's why we were able to win the match.

"I know that Pillars also did well but we were resolved to win with more goals. I would say it was not our best performance but we should have performed better than this.

"The game is all about taking our chances. We got a lot of them but we were only able to cover two. We will continue to work on our conversion rate until we get it right."

The win moved Rivers to the eighth position on the NPFL log with six points from three matches and they will face Sunshine Stars in their next match in Akure on Wednesday.
