Lucky escape as racing car driver almost runs over mechanic

A team mechanic will be counting his lucky stars after he was almost taken out by a driver in the GP2 race at Abu Dhabi.

The man ran across the pit lane to grab a wheel that had accidentally rolled onto the track, but he obviously hadn’t seen driver Raffaele Marciello coming straight for him.

The Italian was trying to get out of the pit area quickly, but he had to jam on the breaks as a collision with the mechanic looked imminent.

Fortunately the car stopped just in time to avoid what would have been a terrible accident, as the man scurried away with the stray wheel.

The man was almost hit as he darted off the side of the track but Marciello narrowly missed clipping him as he sped off out of the pit area.
