Ugly cut and elbow controversy in Leapai's return

Alex Leapai's return to the boxing ring has ended in controversy and anger, after an ugly cut to his opponent forced the bout to end with a technical draw.

The former top Aussie heavyweight was dominating the fight on the undercard to Jeff Horn v Gary Corcoran, when a stray elbow opened up his opponent Roger Izonritei.

The referee ordered the fight to be stopped, and according to local rules had to award both fighters a draw.

Leapai was furious with the decision considering his domination to that point, even urging his opponent to push through and continue fighting.

"We’ve got to fix this up. This is ... I could say a swear world ... but this is wrong," Leapai said after the bout.

"... Come on ref, you’ve got to get your s*** right man. We’re not doing kickboxing here. We’re boxing here.

"This won’t stop me. I’m still going and I’m going to make it to the top and if I have to fight him again so be it, but there’s going to be a rematch because this is bull mate."
