Battered fighter's MMA comeback for the ages

An MMA fighter who looked on the verge of defeat has turned the tables on his opponent in one of the most incredible comebacks in recent memory.

Englishman Nathaniel Wood looked to be on his last legs after a devastating opening round from his opponent Josh Reed at Cage Warriors 86.

Reed had Wood pinned against the cage having already battered him with more than 40 punches to the head and body.

Wood lashed out in desperation but could only manage to punch thin air as his opponent came in for the kill.

The end appeared imminent for Wood after little more than 30 seconds of action in the main event bout.

That was until a simple grapple changed the whole dynamic of the fight.

Wood managed to reel his opponent in by the neck, before unleashing a series of uppercuts to the head, followed by a brutal straight right to Reed's head.

Suddenly, it was Reed who was pushed up against the cage and on the wrong end of a flurry of vicious uppercuts and knees from his indefatigable opponent.

Wood kept his inconceivable onslaught going to the point where Reed was unable to defend himself, prompting the referee to jump in and stop the fight.

"He caught me with something and was throwing bombs but I've looked at his game plan and I know he doesn't move his head so I knew if I just throw back, we're slinging. I'm here to put on a show for everyone," Wood said after the win.

"Boom. I'm a Londoner, that's what we do."
