'He's not clueless': World boxing champ spars with McGregor

A two-time world boxing champ has given his thoughts on Conor McGregor’s boxing skills after sparring with the UFC star.

Paulie Malignaggi, who recently retired from boxing after a glittering career, went eight rounds with the Irishman in Las Vegas.

Malignaggi, who has fought the likes of Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan in a career that saw him win world championships in two different weight classes, praised McGregor’s nous after the session.

BIG CALL: 'McGregor will go down as greatest fighter in history'

LET IT GO: Horn's loudest critic refuses to accept defeat

“Eight rounds, good work. I can’t disclose too much but McGregor is no dummy …. there’s a method to his madness,” Malignaggi said.

“He has an idea of what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, he’s not clueless.

“He’s not your conventional boxer by any means but he’s capable and his power is good. Whether that can be effective is up to him, but he’s no dummy!”

Other than that Malignaggi would not reveal too much about the sessions, saying sparring sessions details are left in the gym.

But McGregor posted some pics from the session on his Instagram page.

These remarks on McGregor’s boxing come just days after a report emerged, unconfirmed, that McGregor had been KO'd during another recent sparring session with Bradley Wheeler.

The much publicised fight against unbeaten boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will be fought on August 26.
