'I would have knocked him out right there on live TV'

Aussie boxing great Jeff Fenech has slammed an American commentator for controversial comments he made about Jeff Horn.

ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas was scathing of the judges after Horn upset Manny Pacquiao to win the WBO welterweight title, and told Horn directly to his face that he thought the Aussie wasn't deserving of the win.

"Congratulations," Atlas said to Horn, "great effort — I thought you lost."

Atlas later raged: "It’s a corrupt sport … the decision stunk."

Horn's response was as classy as his in-ring performance, saying he disagreed with Atlas but respected his opinion nevertheless.

However Fenech reckons Horn should have gone further and landed one on Atlas's chin.

"If it was me I would have knocked Teddy out right there on worldwide TV," Fenech told The Courier Mail.

"Teddy makes out he's a tough guy but if he’d treated me that way I'd have punched him so hard he would have swallowed his microphone.

"Jeff Horn fought his heart out and he deserved to win.

"He controlled the first half of the fight and won enough rounds in the second half to get the decision.

"Teddy has to carry on because it’s controversial and that's his job. He has to also justify the fact he gave Horn no chance."

AUSSIES DOMINATING: Whittaker win sparks Jeff Horn comparisons

Fenech also took aim at Pacquiao for forcing the WBO into re-scoring the controversial fight.

"There shouldn’t have been any controversy at all about this fight," he said.

"Jeff Horn won — end of story. He dominated the first six rounds and Manny is just trying to save face now. The American commentary was ridiculous — they said Pacquiao got ripped off. What fight were they watching?

"All they are trying to do is rob Jeff Horn of the glory he deserves. This was one of the greatest wins ever by an Australian boxer."

The WBO agreed to a Filipino government department's request to review the fight after the legendary Pacquiao described the unanimous decision against him as unfair.

The Philippines Games and Amusements Board's (GAB) based their request on protecting boxing's integrity, citing possible miscalls by the referee and judges.

But the WBO reiterated the only hope of revoking the judges' decision rests on proving fraud in officiating the 'Battle of Brisbane'.

Meanwhile, 7News can reveal a Horn-Pacquiao rematch is set to take place at Brisbane's Boondall Entertainment Centre, rather than Suncorp Stadium.

The rematch is expected to take place in late November, when the weather is too unpredictable for an outdoor arena.
