McGregor's can-throwing case reconsidered by commission

Conor McGregor met Wednesday with the Nevada Athletic Commission and requested a second hearing in a disciplinary case in which he would attend.

The commission will be putting the request to a vote in a hearing next month.

“Today, mixed martial artist Conor McGregor met with Nevada State Athletic Commission Chairman Anthony A. Marnell III and Executive Director Bob Bennett regarding a possible rehearing of McGregor’s prior order arising out of his conduct during a UFC 202 press conference on August 17, 2016,” the NAC said in a statement released to Yahoo Sports.

“After a very cordial and productive meeting with McGregor, Chairman Marnell agreed to place the request for rehearing on the agenda of the Commission’s March 22, 2017 meeting.

"During the hearing on McGregor’s request, Chairman Marnell and Executive Director Bennett will recommend that the Commission grants a rehearing on the prior order.”

The UFC lightweight champion was fined $75,000 and required to perform 50 hours of community service, including shooting a public-service announcement.

McGregor received the fine and the community service for his actions during a UFC 202 pre-fight news conference to promote his fight against Nate Diaz.

During the presser, while McGregor was talking, Diaz walked off with his entourage.

While walking through the back of the Copperfield Theatre in Las Vegas, a Diaz team member threw a bottle at the Irishman’s team and mayhem ensued.

Both sides threw water bottles and McGregor tossed a Monster Energy can towards his opponent.

Diaz ended up receiving a fine of $50,000 and 50 hours of community service.

McGregor won their rematch by majority decision. He went on to defeat Eddie Alvarez by second-round knockout to become the lightweight titleholder and the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles at the same time.
