Why Holm will be desperate for Rousey rematch

UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm stands to make $US7 million if a rematch with Ronda Rousey goes ahead - that's nearly $10 million in Aussie terms.

The UFC has tentatively set a date for what would be the most anticipated fight of 2016 — July 9 at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.

And UFC broadcaster Joe Rogan says Holm's wallet would be the biggest beneficiary.

"Financially, the Holly Holm fight with Ronda is the biggest fight for Holly Holm. Holly Holm's going to make like $7 million," Rogan said on his podcast.

"She doesn't want to wait, she wants to stay active and I totally understand that, and I think it should be her prerogative as a champion to choose.

"But financially that's the smart move for her because she's going to make the most money."

However Holm recently said she wants to fight Miesha Tate before facing Rousey, with Holm's manager Jim Fresquez casting doubt over Rousey's health.

"I'm not sure Ronda will be ready for a July fight," Fresquez said.

"She took a severe beating, and I don't think it's in her best interest to take the next fight so fast.

"Holly's used to staying active and we believe the No.1 contender is there for a reason. (Tate) deserves a shot, but it's not for me to decide.

"We'd like to fight Miesha. We understand there are risks, but Holly's a dominant champion, and she wants to fight the best. Right now, Miesha is the best."

The development comes as No.1 contender Rousey, who has beaten Tate twice, serves a mandatory six-month medical ban as doubts remain over her future.

"It could be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact," Rousey told ESPN last week.
