Belgium's Greet Minnen has reached the second round of the WTA's Linz Open with a surprise victory over third seed Dayna Yastremska.

Minnen won in straight sets 6-4 6-3 and needed just 77 minutes to secure victory.

"It's one of my biggest wins of the year," she told the WTA website. "It wasn't expected because I haven't been playing well the last few weeks, since the coronavirus stopped the season.

"When we resumed it was pretty rough for me and I didn't win a lot of matches.

"I'm just happy I found my game again, and I'm winning matches."

Fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova enjoyed a 6-3 6-4 win over Katerina Siniakova to progress.

The Russian broke serve four times en route to victory and takes on fellow Russian Varvara Gracheva in the second round.

American Bernarda Pera was beaten by Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3 6-1.

Gracheva defeated lucky loser Katarina Zavatska 6-4 7-5 as she continues to impress after reaching the third round in her grand slam debut at the US Open.
