Mike Krzyzewski earns historic 1000th win at Duke

Mike Krzyzewski has reached another historic milestone.

The Blue Devils coach became the first men's Division I coach to win 1,000 games at one school as Duke defeated Utah Valley 99-69 on Saturday.

The win is Krzyzewski's 1073rd overall, which is the most-ever for a coach in men's Division I college basketball history behind former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim with 1,005 wins.

"I’m the luckiest guy to coach ever. I coached at my alma mater, coached the U.S. team for 11 years and I’ve coached what I think is the greatest basketball program in the country," Krzyzewski said after the game, via the Duke Chronicle. "I think there’s more to come, I’m just not sure how many."

Krzyzewski declined to speak with the media about his latest achievement so he could keep the focus on the game, but that didn't stop his players from expressing their admiration for their coach.

"It was a special night, to even be part of this team and to go out and play hard for that and to win this game for him," freshman big man Marvin Bagley III said. "He’s a great coach. I enjoy getting to be around him every day and learning from him every day. I’m just happy to be here and I’m just looking forward to learning a lot from him."

Krzyzewski, 70, boasts five national championships at Duke and has guided the Blue Devils to 12 Final Four appearances after making the NCAA tournament every year since the 1994-95 season. He has also led Team USA to gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
