Barcelona laboured to a 1-1 draw with relegation-battling Eibar in Spain's La Liga as the in-demand Lionel Messi watched on helplessly from the stands.
Sidelined by an ankle injury and the subject of increasing transfer speculation, Messi looked on as his Barca teammates needed an equaliser from substitute Ousmane Dembele to earn a point.
After Martin Braithwaite missed an early penalty, Barcelona spurned a string of chances and then fell behind just before the hour mark.
Kike Garcia robbed Ronald Araujo of possession on the halfway line and raced through on goal to fire the visitors in front.
Dembele had replaced defender Sergino Dest at halftime in an attacking move, and Ronald Koeman made further changes after falling behind which had the desired effect.
Dembele was involved in virtually every Barca attack in the second half, and got his reward in the 67th minute as he fired in from Junior Firpo's cross.
"There is a transition in the team. There are also injuries. We play with young players - today we had five or six - but we also had experience," Barca coach Koeman said.
"We created many opportunities ... We lacked Leo, who makes a difference. But the feeling is still, how did we not win?"
Koeman always knew he faced something of a rebuilding job at the club this season, but admitted after the game his side were not up to speed.
"If I'm realistic, the title is very complicated," he added.
"Nothing is impossible, but you have to recognise the distance.
"Atletico (Madrid) seem to me to be very good, very strong. They don't concede many goals."
The draw leaves Barcelona sixth, seven points behind an Atletico side who have two games in hand on them, and a point behind Sevilla who moved up to fourth with a 2-0 win over Villarreal.
Lucas Ocampos put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot eight minutes in after Juan Foyth was deemed guilty of a handball in the area.
Youssef En-Nesyri then made sure of the points eight minutes into the second half.
Elsewhere, Levante survived a late fightback to beat Real Betis 4-3, while Cadiz and Real Valladolid shared the spoils from a goalless draw.
