Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks to miss 3-5 weeks with ankle sprain, likely return after All-Star break

Memphis Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks will miss three-to-five weeks after he suffered an ankle sprain on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Though that timeline means he could return near the beginning of February at best, Brooks may end up just staying out through the All-Star break.

Brooks went down early in the second quarter of Memphis’ 123-108 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday. Brooks picked up a foul while driving to the basket, though rolled his ankle hard in the process and started hopping immediately before going down.

He was eventually helped off the court and into the locker room.

He finished the night with two points and one rebound in seven minutes.

Brooks has averaged a career-high 18.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 21 games so far this season, his fifth in Memphis. The 25-year-old, who the Houston Rockets selected with the No. 45 overall pick in 2017, is in the second year of a three-year, $35 million deal with the Grizzlies.

Though Brooks’ absence hurts, the Grizzlies’ win over the Clippers marked their eighth straight win — which tied a franchise record. They currently hold the fourth-best record in the Western Conference, five games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks, headed into Sunday’s game against the Lakers.
