Melton Trot Comment Saturday (Day) Updated

Race One:

OVERVIEW: SOUNDSOFCASH (6) has been unplaced at her two starts to date but she has been very impressive at the trials and she should prove hard to beat. She produced a big finish at her latest trial victory over MYPARIS (2) (PLAYFUL MISS (4) was 4th) where she scored by 19m (2.2.5, 57.09). SOMEGLITZSOMEWHERE (5) looms as the logical danger. He has been runner up at his past two attempts and he was driven aggressively to find the lead in the early stages before being run down by Execution Oro in the final 50m at Ballarat last week. LET'S GO EXCLUSIVE (1) performed below expectations when a distant 4th (62m) at his first run since Feb. The mile rate was a brisk 1.54.7 however and he did sustain a long run from the 600m to defeat SUMMER GRIN (3) by 16m at a Melton trial victory prior (2.4.0, 60.6). He can improve from the pole position. MYPARIS (2) has shown early speed at the trials and followed her distant 2nd behind SOUNDSOFCASH (6) at a Melton trial with another runner up performance behind Urbadboy (won since) at a Ballarat trial appearance. She could fill a place from the good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 1,2

Race Two:

OVERVIEW: THE DEFIANT (4) hasn't won a race since Sept 2018 but he showed improvement with a trial 2nd at Melton and followed up that performance with a 2nd behind Really Campbell last week. He led out then took cover behind the winner last week but he is a good chance of trying to lead throughout under these conditions. LET'S GO LOHI (9) appeared to have her chance last week but her form prior was strong and she strikes a suitable assignment here. She settled three back on the inside, came out wider in the home straight and got up to win over Really Campbell (won twice since) on April 22. The former New South Wales trained pacer CEE CEE NORMAN (2) was beaten by a long way at her Victorian debut but she is likely to find this assignment to be easier. She led and scored at Wagga prior to her effort last week. DEE MACH (7) disappointed at his first run since Aug but is capable of a better performance and MAKE ME HAPPY (11) finished 4th against similar opposition at Melton last week. If the emergency CALEDONIAN TERRA (3) gains a start, he will be strongly fancied.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,7

Race Three:

OVERVIEW: MIRRAGON (6) progressed forward to find the lead and zipped home in a brilliant final quarter of 26.5 2nds when he scored comfortably at Melton last outing. He sustained a long run from the back of the field to win in a mile rate of 1.54.9 on April 22 so he is versatile and in-form. PLAN CE (5) looms as the logical danger. He was resuming since Feb when he zipped across to find the lead and scored comfortably at Melton then did a great job to finish 3rd after racing on the outside of the leader throughout in a sizzling mile rate of 1.52.9 last week. He is a good chance of finding the lead in the early stages and he should take catching. MAXINES DELIGHT (7) is likely to settle in the 2nd half of the field from her awkward draw but she has been racing very consistently in the Melton Saturday night events so she will appreciate racing in a field of less depth here. THE FORTUNATE SON (4) is a tough type and will strip fitter from his sound first up 4th behind the in-form Abouttime at Melton last week. He has claims along with the handy 3yo pacer SANDAY (2) and the short course specialist JULIUSTIGRES (3).

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 2,3,6

Race Four:

OVERVIEW: OVERANDOUT (5) is a brilliant beginner from the mobile and is likely to shoot to a clear lead around the first corner. He ran along at a very genuine tempo and established a big lead when he scored on debut then he was run down over the longer trip by the smart trotter Kaudo last outing. He will appreciate dropping back to the sprint distance here so he will take catching. MAJESTIC EYES (9) is racing well and he does possess a handy finishing burst. He led out then took cover behind the eventual winner Sonny Brooke when 2nd in a stronger race on May 13. ALDEBARAN LEROY (10) is a handy trotter when he puts it altogether and he trialled extremely well when 2nd behind Normandy Belle at Ballarat last week where he galloped away and missed approximately 50m early. He hasn't raced since March but he was a convincing winner at Melton two starts back and is a definite chance if he puts in a fool proof display. MEZIAH (7) is consistent and he has the gate speed to be able to find a forward position in the early stages so he warrants consideration. BROOKES ROSE (3), FLASH BOY (8) and QUERENCIA (11) are all worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 2,7

Race Five:

OVERVIEW: AFTER LUNCH (10) has been very wayward in her two starts since returning from Western Australia but her latest 2nd behind My Bettor Lady (won again since) was an improvement to her first up display as she led in a handy mile rate of 1.56.6 and battled on well at the finish. She raced at a strong level in Western Australia and she should keep improving. RUNSAFARIRUN (2) endured a tough run and raced fiercely so he had excuses at his latest 5th. He was 2nd behind the in-form filly Jobells Image prior and he does race best when he is close to the lead so he is perfectly drawn for this assignment. OSCAR BRAVO (8) was hitting the line strongly at his latest 4th and is a value hope from his trailing draw. He will be relying on RUNSAFARIRUN (2) holding a forward position at the start but he did come from three back on the markers at his last win at Geelong back in Jan. JOY MAC (3) broke through for a deserved victory last week where she worked forward to find the lead and raced away over the latter stages. This race is significantly harder and she may not be able to head off RUNSAFARIRUN (2) in the early stages here but she won too well last outing to dismiss.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,4,5,7

Race Six:

OVERVIEW: TINA CALLS (7) is dropping back in class from the Melton Saturday night events so she should prove hard to beat despite the wide draw. She ended up racing without cover, pulled hard, and battled on strongly for 2nd behind the in-form mare Miss McGonagall last outing. SHARK LUCK (3) is a fast beginner from the mobile and races best when he is able to lead. He was left stranded on the outside of the leader but kicked on strongly at his latest 3rd so he must be included amongst the leading chances. HECTOR MACRAY (11) was shuffled back on the markers from the inside of the second row but he was finishing off fast when 6th at Melton last outing. He was also making late ground when 3rd prior so he will be hard to hold out if he receives the right luck from the awkward draw. YANNARIE (2) has shown improvement at her past two performances and was 2nd behind Abouttime at her latest attempt so she is not without a chance. FIRST AND ERST (9) led throughout to win last outing and drops back to the 2nd line now but she possesses a good turn of speed and cannot be discarded.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,7
