Thora Birch is getting back to her spellbinding roots with a role in Season 2 of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, TVLine has learned. The Hocus Pocus actress will play Gifford Mayfair, officially described as a “self-deprecating tarot card reader and wannabe-bohemian who lately spends a lot of time at her lake house.”
News of Birch’s casting was announced Tuesday during AMC Networks’ session at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, along two other additions: Alyssa Jirrels (Fatal Attraction) will play the series-regular role of Moira Mayfair, a mind reader who holds her family and Lasher responsible for the death of her sister Tessa, and Ted Levine (Big Sky) will recur as Cortland’s “diabolical” father Julien Mayfair.

Based on Rice’s supernatural book trilogy, Mayfair Witches‘ first season aired from January to February 2023, with production on its eight-episode second season currently underway in New Orleans.
Mayfair Witches, along with Interview With the Vampire, is part of Rice’s Immortal Universe. AMC Networks is “actively developing” a possible third series, written and executive-produced by Oscar nominee John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side). The series would follow the secret Talamasca society, which is featured in several of Rice’s books.

SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE | All we know is that Season 2 will air “later this year” on AMC and AMC+.
SEASON 2 CAST | Returning series regulars include Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, Jack Huston as Lasher, Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve and Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair. Alyssa Jirrels joins them in Season 2 as Moira Mayfair.
SEASON 2 GUEST STARS | Ted Levine (Big Sky) will recur as Corltland’s father Julien Mayfair, described by AMC as a “master manipulator and diabolical presence that haunts the family,” while Thora Birch (Hocus Pocus) will guest-star as Gifford Mayfair, described as a “self-deprecating tarot card reader and wannabe-bohemian who lately spends a lot of time at her lake house.”
SEASON 2 TRAILER | No trailers from the second season, teaser or otherwise, have been released.
SEASON 2 PLOT | The show’s sophomore season will be largely based on Lasher, Rice’s second book in the Mayfair Witches trilogy, save for one major change: “In the book, Rowan is riding beside Lasher, and he’s the one driving the story,” executive producer Esta Spalding tells TVLine. “We need to make a show which is about Rowan. There are so many extraordinary parts of that book, and we’re going to honor them, but we’re also going to make Rowan an active part of that story, not just someone who’s beside him having it happen to her.”
