Married teacher found guilty of having sex with student in a field
A 35-year-old married teacher has been convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old school boy.
Kandice Barber, of Buckinghamshire in the UK, has been told she could spend up to five years in prison after being found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The verdicts were announced following less than 11 hours of jury deliberation.
Ms Barber’s husband who appeared as a witness in her defence reportedly fumed “it’s a joke” as the verdict was read out.
Daniel Barber told the jury his wife was his “rock” and their relationship was “as strong as ever” during the trial and showed the jury a heart tattoo on his wrist that matches his wife’s tattoo.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said that Ms Barber had asked to meet the teenager outside of school and on one occasion took him to a field, where they had sex.
During the trial one of Ms Barber’s defence arguments was that she was too short to perform one of the sexual positions the boy had described them as doing, another was that she was simply too busy to have an affair.
At first when Ms Barber and the teenager were confronted by the school headmaster about the relationship, both denied it. However message exchanges and online images showed there was a connection.
"The messages were crucial to our case as they showed Barber had initiated contact with the teenager and pursued him, even threatening him when the school investigation began,” senior prosecutor Jennie Laskar-Hall of the CPS said.
Barber was accused of sending the boy explicit pictures of herself.
"Denying what she had done, Barber has forced the teenager and his family to go through a trial, and I want to commend him for providing the vital evidence we needed to secure today's conviction.”
Sentencing will take place at Aylesbury Crown Court on February 15.
Prosecutor Richard Milne told Recorder Bal Dhaliwal that the starting point for sentencing should be five years in jail.
Ex reveals teacher’s ‘excessive’ sex demands
An ex boyfriend of Barber spoke to the UK’s Daily Mail, revealing how their relationship ended due to her intense sexual demands, saying “it was too excessive”.
“When I heard about the video and picture she'd sent this lad and where they had sexual contact, it reminded me of our relationship. I thought that sounds like Kandice,” he said.
“That was the sort of stuff she was into and it didn't surprise me at all but what shocked me was that she did it with a kid. I can't believe how stupid she's been.”
He said Barber would want to have sex as many as six times a day and often insisted on having sex in outdoor, public places.
