Marcus Smart recovering from coronavirus and in 'great spirits,' says coach Brad Stevens
Marcus Smart, the Boston Celtics player who tested positive for the coronavirus on March 19, is recovering well and doing just fine.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens spoke to the media on Friday via conference call and revealed that Smart is still self-isolating and is in “great spirits.”
“Joking as always,” Stevens said, via Masslive. "We had a Zoom conference with the team, told the team we were going to give them their own space to hang out and have fun. And he told us to get off. So he’s great.”
It’s not known if Smart experienced any symptoms or fell ill following his positive test. He was the first Celtics player to test positive, and thus far the only one known to the public. Once news broke that a Celtics player had tested positive, Smart recorded a video and posted it to Twitter, urging everyone to take COVID-19, and all the associated recommendations like social distancing, self quarantine, and hand washing, seriously.
I was tested 5 days ago and the results came back tonight, which were positive. Ive been self quarantined since the test, thank goodness. COVID-19 must be taken w the highest of seriousness. I know it’s a #1 priority for our nations health experts, & we must get more testing ASAP pic.twitter.com/xkijb9wlKV

Stevens said he was proud of how Smart reacted in the face of his positive test.
“I’m proud of how he kind of took the initiative to tell people that he had it and that he felt good and that he got online and just continued to ask people to practice social distancing and self-isolation right now,” Stevens told Masslive. “It’s a really unique, unsettling time for everyone.”
