Manly plan on resting Tom Trbojevic from Friday's clash with St George Illawarra, with Des Hasler all but confirming the NRL star won't back up from State of Origin.
Trbojevic was one of 34 Origin players named by clubs on Tuesday to play in this weekend's matches, but significant question marks remain over most of the big names.
Given Trbojevic's injury history, the Sea Eagles opted to rest him but played Daly Cherry-Evans when they had just a two-day turnaround from Origin I last month.
And with the same timeframe between games this week, Hasler confirmed he would take a similar approach for Friday's clash with the Dragons on the Gold Coast.
"Yes, 100 per cent (that is the plan)," the Manly coach responded when asked if the Sea Eagles would adopt a similar approach.
Manly's woes without Trbojevic are well known, with the Sea Eagles a staggering 39 points better off in each game he plays this year.
They were lacklustre in attack when upset by Canberra without Trbojevic last week, but on that occasion were also missing Cherry-Evans in the halves.
It means Reuben Garrick will again likely line up at fullback for Manly, with Moses Suli on the wing.
Garrick has at least trained in the position in recent weeks, occupying significant time at the back during the Origin period with Manly well aware they will play multiple games without Trbojevic.
"It's good to get a bit of time there. It's not my primary position, it's my secondary position," Garrick said.
"But getting a bit more experienced there isn't hurting me. It can only do me good."
