Manhunt after alleged suburban stabbing
Police are searching for a man they believe can assist with their inquiries into alleged stabbing attack on another man in central Queensland.
Detectives have released the image of Matthew Defreitas, who they wish to speak to over an incident that left a man in a critical condition earlier in August.
Officers were called to Brisbane Street in Barney Point at about 11.40pm on August 3 after reports of a disturbance.
A 30-year-old Barney Point man was found with multiple stab wounds and lacerations.
He was taken in a critical condition to Gladstone Hospital before being airlifted to Brisbane for further treatment.
Police are now calling on 23-year-old Mr Defreitas to surrender himself to police or for anyone who spots him to contact them.
He is described as Caucasian with a slim build, dark brown hair and is approximately 175cm tall with a proportionate build.
Anyone who sees Mr Defreitas is urged not to approach him and to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
“Investigations are continuing into whether the man was being hidden from police and may have assisted with his possible move to Victoria,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said
Another man , a 30-year-old from South Gladstone, was charged with one count of attempted murder earlier this month over the incident.
