Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone sidelined with calf injury
Manchester United Women midfielder Ella Toone is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury.
The 25-year-old missed United’s two-goal victory at Leicester City in the Women’s Super League (WSL) on Sunday and manager Marc Skinner has said she is ruled out of the side’s upcoming games.
Skinner’s team play away to Everton in the League Cup on Wednesday before travelling to champions Chelsea in the WSL four days later.
“Ella picked up an injury to her calf on Saturday in training,” Skinner said on Sunday after United’s win at Leicester.
“She was running and felt something in her calf. She will miss the next two games and then we will see what the extent of the injury is after that.
“We are hopeful she will be available for England — we don’t know the extent yet.”
The injury means Toone is a doubt for England’s upcoming two friendly matches against the USWNT and Switzerland on November 30 and December 3 respectively.
The midfielder is an important player for club and country, starting each of United’s first six matches in the WSL this season and scoring 19 goals in 53 international caps for England.
