Manchester United: Ruben Amorim to be without Darren Fletcher after three-match ban confirmed

Darren Fletcher has been handed a three-match extended touchline ban, as well as a £7,500 fine, for misconduct at Manchester United’s Premier League game with Brentford last month.

An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanction after finding the FA allegations that the United coach acted in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or that he used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official and the referee and/or assistant referees around the tunnel area at half time, to be proven.

Fletcher admitted the misconduct but denied that he was abusive in an incident which came after Brentford scored while Matthijs de Ligt was off the field receiving treatment for a head cut.

The United defender had already been bandaged up after being kneed in the head, but the referee forced him off again, leading to Fletcher’s, and then-United boss Erik ten Hag’s, complaints.

The ban means Fletcher will not be on the touchline for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final game in interim charge against Leicester on Sunday, or Ruben Amorim’s opening two league games against Ipswich and Everton.
