Manchester United have failed to win their opening match in major European competition in each of the past four seasons - losing in 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 and now drawing 1-1 against FC Twente.

The Red Devils have also gone on to win just one of their past six major European matches when scoring the opening goal (D3 L2).
