Alex Herz was able to track down the woman from the video with help from the TikTok community
One couple's special moment got caught on camera during the New York City Marathon.
Last Sunday, Alex Herz and and his girlfriend were watching the marathon on their computer and recording the footage in hopes of catching a friend cross the finish line when they spotted a man get down on one knee.
"We ended up capturing the proposal," Herz tells PEOPLE.
In the TikTok, a man in a gray t-shirt gets down on one knee as a woman wearing a pink sweater appears to say yes. The two can be seen kissing and walking off-camera at the end of the video.
"I was screen recording the New York Marathon to see my friend finish and caught this couple getting engaged," he wrote on the video.
After watching the proposal onscreen, Herz took the recording and posted it on TikTok hoping to find and share it with the couple.
"TikTok do your thing!" he captioned the video.
Then, just two days after posting his original video, Herz says he was able to get in touch with the couple. In a follow-up TikTok he shared the DM he received from the girl who'd gotten engaged.
"Hi! Super random – I am the girl in the video that got engaged in your TikTok!! We would love the video if you have it," the message read.
"Thank you so much for capturing and posting!!! It means the world to me," the woman continued.
After she reached out, Herz says the two of them connected, and he was able to share the full file of the proposal with the bride-to-be.
"It was such a sweet moment and glad we were able to reach her with it," he says.
The identities of the future bride and groom have not been revealed.
