Magic hires Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady for front office role

While Tracy McGrady has spent time with Magic in the past as a player, the team announced Friday that the basketball Hall of Famer will rejoin the franchise in a new role as special assistant to CEO Alex Martins.

"I am thrilled to be back where I truly made a name for myself — with the Orlando Magic," McGrady said in a statement. "The DeVos family and the entire organization have always done everything in a first-class manner and I am excited to be able to help them with whatever they may need."

McGrady will have several roles, but he won't be limited to the court. According to the team, he will be involved in the Florida community as he helps promote the G League's Lakeland Magic in addition to being available to players and coaches both on and off of the court.

“Having Tracy McGrady, a perennial All-Star and a Hall of Famer, on our staff is tremendous for our entire organization,” Martins said. “Whether it will be on the court with the team or in the Central Florida community, Tracy’s knowledge, experience and stature will be an incredible asset for our players and our organization. We are extremely excited to bring him back home.”

McGrady played 15 seasons in the NBA and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September. He played for Magic from 2000-04 and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2000-01 season. Since retiring in 2013, McGrady has served as an NBA analyst for ESPN.
