Married at First Sight UK expert Paul C Brunson has said that the upcoming series proves that dating shows can be inclusive.

Talking about the Channel 4 hit series, which returns to screens this month, the relationship coach told Digital Spy and other press that he believes this year's MAFS UK cast line-up paves the way for inclusivity.

"I will say, I have not seen a show as inclusive as this show," he said. "This particular casting… And I’m not just talking about the UK, I’m talking about in the world. Because I did television in the US, for 10 years before I got here.

"You never had a group of people this diverse, this inclusive, ever."

Season 8's cast features the show's first-ever transgender bride. Clinic consultant Ella said of joining the show: "This experiment is so much more than just me getting married. I see this as a big deal for someone who has transitioned."

In 2021, the show similarly made history when it introduced their first-ever gay couple Matt Jameson and Daniel McKee. The two have since parted ways.

Last year's series also saw the successful pairing of brides Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson. The couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary in April.

Talking about the reality dating space in general, Paul added: "You know what’s so interesting is that push back by producers has always been 'we can’t do it'... What are you talking about?

"We’re human beings! And so I think that’s what’s so incredible about this series."

In a teaser clip ahead of the season premiere, Paul additionally hinted at a change in format as well as an "explosive" new series.

Fans won't have to wait too much longer to see this year's brides and grooms meet at the altar, with season 8 arriving on screens on Monday, September 18 at 9pm on E4.

Married at First Sight UK airs on E4 in the UK. Married at First Sight Australia airs on Nine Network in Australia and E4 in the UK.
