Carabao Cup draw LIVE! Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United learn fourth round fate
Carabao Cup draw LIVE!
Chelsea earned a much-needed victory tonight over Brighton to remain in the hat for the fourth round draw. Nicolas Jackson ended his goal drought to make the difference, as the Blues were joined by holders Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and more. Manchester City are been knocked out after defeat at St James’ Park.
It is shaping up to be another wide open competition, especially after City’s exit, with the likes of Exeter, Mansfield and Port Vale also alive in the competition. But League One’s Lincoln City saw their own journey end as West Ham secured a narrow 1-0 win up north. Impressive Championship side Ipswich will also be looking to make an impression in the next round.
The draw will be broadcast on Sky Sports from around 10.15pm BST. What will the Carabao Cup have in store for us in the fourth round? Follow the draw LIVE below with our dedicated blog.

These draws are never on time, should anyone need telling. I’ll be delighted to be proved wrong but we have less than five minutes to go, supposedly.

Newcastle have held on to beat Manchester City so we have a complete line up for the fourth round!
The draw to come in about 15-20 minutes.
21:42 , Alex Young
Stick with us on this blog for coverage of the Carabao Cup draw, which should be in about half an hour or so.
Full-time!
21:40 , Alex Young
97min: That’s it! Two stunners and a place in the fourth round, thankyouverymuch.
21:37 , Alex Young
92min: Six minutes added on, by the way.
21:37 , Alex Young
91min: More changes as we enter added time. Chambers is on for his Liverpool debut, replacing Tsimikas.
GOAL!
21:35 , Alex Young
89min: That settles it! Jota with a superb flick of the back heel to secure Liverpool’s spot in the fourth round.
21:33 , Alex Young
87min: Wow, talking about waiting and waiting and not shooting - Ndidi did just that when seemingly through on goal as Liverpool survive.
21:32 , Alex Young
86min: Deary me, has Elliott got his shoes on the wrong foot tonight? He could have had a hat-trick tonight. This time he just waits and waits and waits with the goal gaping before turning around and failing to find Nunez.
Sitter!
21:30 , Alex Young
84min: Szoboszlai also hasn’t given up as he tries his luck with another corker from distance, but this one was a good few yards wide.
21:27 , Alex Young
81min: Leicester haven’t given up, y’know, as Konate is forced to back track and clear the danger with his team-mates standing like statues.
21:26 , Alex Young
79min: Jones is off for Bajcetic.
21:22 , Alex Young
76min: Nunez charges down on the Leicester goal - which is some sight - as the defenders back track, but his shot across goal is a tad scuffs and trickles wide.
21:20 , Alex Young
74min: Liverpool have has 22 shots on goal. They should be out of sight.
21:18 , Alex Young
72min: If Leicester thought they were unable to control the game when in front, they have no chance now Liverpool are cruising.
GOAL!
21:16 , Alex Young
70min: That didn’t take him long! Szoboszlai puts Liverpool into the lead with an absolute rocket into the top corner, which hits the underside of the bar!
21:11 , Alex Young
65min: And now Liverpool changes. Doak is replaced by Szoboszlai and Nunez comes on for Gravenberch.
21:10 , Alex Young
64min: Elliott has not got his shooting boots on today as he wildly throws a leg at a shot inside the area, which would have cleared two goals.
Triple change for Leicester. Fatawu replaces Albrighton,m= Iheanacho makes way for Daka and Akgun is replaced by Dewsbury-Hall.
21:08 , Alex Young
63min: The corner, and then another, and then another, come to nothing.
21:08 , Alex Young
61min: Jota throws himself at Elliott’s cut-back but he is off balance and somehow wins a corner. Leicester are furious at the decision.
21:05 , Alex Young
59min: Chelsea loanee Casadei makes way for Ndidi.
21:03 , Alex Young
57min: Oh my word, Gakpo somehow - SOMEHOW - doesn’t score a second. He was under the crossbar, ready to head it in, but Leicester clear and Elliott thwacks the rebound from a yard out for a throw in!
Lost for words.
21:02 , Alex Young
56min: That was a real chance as Gakpo spots the run of Gravenberch into the area, but the former overhits a lofted cross and the move breaks down. Leicester’s backline were flat-footed, then.
21:00 , Alex Young
54min: Liverpool look so much more comfortable now with Leicester needing to come onto them.
20:58 , Alex Young
52min: Movement on the Leicester bench as Ndidi is being warmed up. He has scored in round one and two before tonight...
20:55 , Alex Young
48min: Gakpo with great strength to hold off the defender and fire home on the turn.
GOAL!
20:52 , Alex Young
48min: This time Liverpool score after three minutes! Gakpo levels it up!
Second half!
20:49 , Alex Young
46min: We are back under way! There doesn’t appear to be any changes.
20:41 , Alex Young
Liverpool should be ahead, they have been the better side, but they trail to a goal scored after three minutes.
Jota and Doak should have scored, and Gakpo also went close. Klopp must be scratching his head.
Half-time!
20:34 , Alex Young
47min: That’s your lot for the first half. I’m not sure how Liverpool aren’t ahead, let alone losing.
20:32 , Alex Young
45min: Two minutes added on.
20:30 , Alex Young
43min: Coady again clears from almost under his own crossbar. Liverpool pushing again before half-time.
20:27 , Alex Young
40min: The ball sits up nicely for Gakpo to have a pop from the edge of the area after a bit of midfield ping-ball, but his half-volley is weak.
20:25 , Alex Young
37min: Gakpo’s curled effort from inside the area is deflected wide. From the following corner, Gravenberch feeds Doak into a shooting position, but the youngster is rash and his effort is miles wide.
20:23 , Alex Young
36min: Jones has struggled so far. Was caught completely out of position for Leicester’s goal and is not providing much in the way of attacking intent from deep.
20:21 , Alex Young
34min: Liverpool have clearly been the better team, despite trailing, but Leicester are so threatening on the break. They keep their shape and are ready to pose down the wings.
20:19 , Alex Young
32min: A calmer few minutes, and they are needed, as Liverpool probe in midfield once again. Leicester’s shape is very impressive.
20:16 , Alex Young
29min: Elliott fancies a crack at this free kick... but it’s straight into the wall.
20:15 , Alex Young
28min: Liverpool win a free kick on the edge of the area after Gakpo is tripped by Justin.
20:13 , Alex Young
26min: Gakpo is everywhere. You feel if (when) Liverpool score, he will be involved. He is so busy.
20:10 , Alex Young
24min: First booking for the game goes to Richardo for wiping out Gravenberch. He can’t have any complaints, but he does of course.
OFF THE LINE!
20:09 , Alex Young
22min: What do Liverpool need to do?! Gakpo is free at the back post to head at goal, it beats the keeper but not Coady on the line!
20:08 , Alex Young
21min: The referee wins back some friends as Souttar wipes out Jota near the byline to wins a free kick. It’s as clear as day, but Souttar is fuming.
20:06 , Alex Young
19min: The referee isn’t making many friends on Merseyside. Gakpo tussles with Coady for the ball around 30 yards out from Leicester’s goal, the pair go to ground but it is the defender who wins the free kick. Didn’t look much in it at all.
20:04 , Alex Young
17min: Elliott has a pop from a good 25 yards, cutting inside from the right, but it’s hide and wide.
20:02 , Alex Young
15min: Now it is Leicester’s turn to calm things down. Klopp must be in disbelief on the sidelines.
SITTERS!
19:59 , Alex Young
12min: Oh my word, how have Liverpool not scored!
First Jota just has to tap it in at the back post but somehow gets the ball stuck under his feet, and seconds later Doak hits the crossbar from four yards out!
19:58 , Alex Young
11min: It almost works as Gakpo and Jota combine for the former to have a shot at goal, but Souttar blocks!
19:58 , Alex Young
10min: Liverpool have calmed the game down a touch, and they needed to after the poor start. Taking their time on the ball.
19:55 , Alex Young
8min: Screams for a Liverpool penalty as Doak goes down under a challenge from Justin, but the referee isn’t interested. Looks like the right decision.
19:52 , Alex Young
5min: Anfield have not been silenced for long as they get back behind the team. Endo has a shot from the edge of the area, but it’s a good metre wide.
19:50 , Alex Young
3min: It’s a fifth goal of the season for the academy graduate, who simply runs through on goal after Jones is caught out of possession.
GOAL!
19:48 , Alex Young
3min: That wasn’t in the script! Leicester go ahead through McAteer!
Kick-off!
19:46 , Alex Young
1min: We’re up and running!
19:42 , Alex Young
Here come the teams!
19:40 , Alex Young
It must be almost time for kick-off at Anfield as AC/DC's Thunderstruck is blaring out the PA systems. Almost time for the teams.
19:30 , Alex Young
Kick-off is fast approaching. The final warm-ups have been done and both sets of players are in the dressing room.
Jurgen Klopp on the Liverpool XI
19:14 , Alex Young
”Whatever team I select, there will be those who believe I have made too many changes and those who think I have not made enough.
“As the players have shown already this season, they are prepared to work together and give everything no matter which names are on the back of our red shirts, so hopefully it will be exactly the same tonight.”
Coady and Souttar start
19:06 , Alex Young
Leicester also make 10 changes as Conor Cody is handed a debut and Harry Souttar is in for his first appearance of the season.
Only Ricardo Pereira keeps his place from the weekend. Jakub Stolarczyk is in goal and tonight will look to continue his record of never conceding a goal for Leicester. It's only been three games, but still.
Former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks gets a well-deserved rest as Hamza Choudhury, fresh from signing a new contract, comes into the team. Jamie Vardy is also rested.
Jones is captain
19:01 , Alex Young
So, Liverpool make 10 changes from the 3-1 win over West Ham, with only Curtis Jones keeping his place and wears the captain’s armband!
The front three is as expected of Ben Doak, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota and the midfield is the same which eventually saw off LASK Linz in the Europa League.
Jones - his second game as captain - will be skippering the team from right-back, which is certainly a choice. Wataru Endo can also play there, of course.
18:54 , Alex Young
Liverpool XI: Kelleher, Jones, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas, Endo, Gravenberch, Elliott, Doak, Jota, Gakpo
Subs: Adrian, Van Dijk, Diaz, Szoboszlai, Nunez, Mac Allister, Matip, Bajcetic, Chambers
Leicester XI: Stolarczyk, Ricardo, Souttar Coady, Justin, Choudhury, Casadei, McAteer, Akgun, Albrighton Iheanacho
Subs: Hermansen, Faes, Vestergaard, Winks, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall, Fatawu, Mavididi, Daka

Your Reds to face Leicester City in #CarabaoCup round three, with @curtisjr_10 taking the captain's armband!— Liverpool FC (@LFC) September 27, 2023
18:39 , Alex Young
A lovely touch from Liverpool as, the BBC report, that nine players from the women’s team will take to the Anfield pitch at half-time to celebrate the start of the WSL season.
18:30 , Alex Young
Team news is imminent. It sounds like a nice mix of experience and youth from Liverpool.
18:14 , Alex Young
This is actually the second time these two teams will meet this season after a pre-season friendly in Singapore, which Liverpool won 4-0.
Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark and a double from Diogo Jota meant it was a routine win over the Foxes.
Maresca: Pep has stopped Klopp becoming serial winner
17:54 , Alex Young
Enzo Maresca is, of course, very familiar with Liverpool thanks to his time at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
And the Leicester boss believes Guardiola has stopped Jurgen Klopp becoming a serial Premier League winner.
"For sure, I really enjoy the challenge between them in the last five or 10 years. I think they also enjoy, as a club, to fight between them," he said.
"Liverpool are very intense, very aggressive, it doesn't matter what the game is, the opponent or the competition. They are a machine.
"But it's impossible to maintain the same level for five, six, seven years. Very soon they will be at the same level they have been for the last two or three years.
"They have been unbelievable. With Manchester City they have been the two teams who have been competing and trying to win titles."
Score prediction
17:46 , Alex Young
With Leicester surely having eyes on promotion, it’s hard to imagine them making this their priority. For that reason, as well as the strength of Liverpool’s squad, a home win seems likely.
Liverpool 3-1 Leicester
Coady set for Leicester debut
17:40 , Alex Young
Conor Coady is set to make debut for Leicester City, facing the club where he started his career.
The 30-year-old has been sidelined which fracturing his foot in pre-season, and manager Enzo Maresca says Coady is ready after making the last three matchday squads in what could see a number of changes from the visitors.
“It’s not because it’s his former club, it’s just because after eight or nine weeks out, he needs to come back step by step, slowly,” Maresca said. “Probably tomorrow could be the right game for him.”
He added: Maresca said: “For sure we are going to make changes, no doubt. We have more players that we are using. We are going to continue to use them, because they deserve it. We cannot play every game with the same 11. Some players need a rest and to refresh for Sunday’s game against Blackburn.”
Klopp to ring the changes
17:31 , Alex Young
Trent Alexander-Arnold is back in Liverpool training ahead of the Carabao Cup clash but will not be involved tonight.
The England international has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury but has recently stepped up his return.
Pep Lijnders said on Tuesday: “Trent trained yesterday with us but it was just in the rondo and the ball possession with the counter-pressing, but he was outstanding. You see him instantly, of course. He is with the team training, I am not sure if he will be ready, we will see today.
On Thiago Alcantara, who is also still sidelined, the assistant coach said: “He is in a good way, the healing process is going well so that’s the most important [thing] at this moment.”
Klopp should name a team similar to the one he fie
lded against LASK in the Europa League. As such, the likes of Stefan Bajcetic, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah and Ben Doak could also start.
Summer signings Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo should get another opportunity from the off with Premier League minutes currently restricted.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Kelleher; Bajcetic, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Elliott, Endo, Gravenberch; Doak, Gakpo, Jota
Where to watch Liverpool vs Leicester
17:30 , Alex Young
Well, you can’t. Not on TV in the UK anyway.
Highlights will be available on the Sky Sports app and YouTube shortly after full-time, as well as on ITV1’s highlights programme at 12.05am later this evening.
Sky’s TV rights agreement with the EFL allows for 15 live Carabao Cup games a season, with only two per round at this stage of the competition. Manchester City vs Newcastle is today’s live game after Manchester United faced Crystal Palace on TV yesterday.
Welcome
17:15 , Alex Young
Good evening and welcome to the Evening Standard’s LIVE coverage of the Carabao Cup clash between Liverpool and Leicester City.
The hosts are flying high in the Premier League but the visitors currently top the Championship following their relegation last season, so this may not be the straightforward victory some are expecting.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to make plenty of changes, but so could Foxes boss Enzo Maresca. Kick-off at Anfield is at 7.45pm with a place in the fourth round up for grabs!
