Liverpool injury update: Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota latest news and return dates
Liverpool moved up to second in the Premier League after a dramatic win over Fulham on Sunday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late goal sealed a dramatic three points after something of a classic unfolded at Anfield, with the visitors seeing a late 3-2 lead overturned on an afternoon of stunning goals.
Things are looking good for Liverpool. After such a difficult campaign last time out, Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost only once in the Premier League all season and are into the latter stages of both the Carabao Cup and Europa League.
Such has been their relentless run of form, only injuries are a problem at the moment.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool injuries…
Joel Matip
Joel Matip was forced off during the win over Fulham and Klopp confirmed the knee issue looked a reasonably serious one.
“We lost today Joel. We obviously have no pictures yet, no scan yet, but from what you hear and can see, that will not be a short one,” he said.
Potential return date: Unknown
Alisson Becker
First-choice goalkeeper Alisson injured his hamstring after an afternoon to forget during the draw with Manchester City late last month.
“With Ali it’s a bit lesser, so we have to see – not day by day, he will not play tomorrow, not on Sunday, probably not the week after,” said Klopp last week.
“Then it should be kind of OK.”
Potential return date: December 2023
Diogo Jota
Like Alisson, Diogo Jota pulled up during the City game.
Klopp has since confirmed the forward’s issue is a little more serious than Alisson’s.
“Diogo will take a little bit longer, we don’t know exactly how long, but it’s a bit more severe. We have to see,” added Klopp.
Potential return date: Unknown
Andy Robertson
Key defender Andy Robertson underwent shoulder surgery in October last month confirmed his recovery was going well, albeit he could not name a return date.
Potential return date: Unknown
Thiago Alcantara
Thiago has not played at all this season and is not expected to feature before the New Year following hip surgery.
"Thiago is an ongoing thing. We cannot put any pressure in there as well," Klopp said of Thiago earlier this month.
"But we expect him to be back, I would probably say start of the New Year.”
Potential return date: January 2024
Stefan Bajcetic
Stefan Bajcetic has only played twice since enjoying a breakout campaign last time out due to an abductor injury sustained back in March.
Potential return date: Unknown
