Diogo Jota is a major doubt for Liverpool’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig on Wednesday, with manager Arne Slot admitting he “would be surprised” if the forward was fit to play.

Jota was forced off midway through the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea, which sent the Reds back to the top of the Premier League.

The Portuguese, who has four goals and two assists across competitions this season, was replaced by Darwin Nunez as goals from Mo Salah and Curtis Jones made it seven wins on the bounce for Slot’s side across all competitions.

That sequence includes two wins from two in the Champions League, but Liverpool may have to do without Jota when they seek to keep up their perfect start to the group stage in Germany.

“I don’t know what it is but I would be surprised if he’s there on Wednesday,” said Slot, who also revealed he had been juggling several other fitness concerns ahead of the meeting with Chelsea.

“Conor Bradley is not in. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] was also not training in the first days after he came back [from international duty] so he was a bit of a doubt before the game.

“We had Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] being sick.”
