Brendan Rodgers is considering a £14 million bid for RB Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman as he prepares for a summer overhaul of his squad.

Rodgers, the Leicester manager, wants to complete a permanent deal for the Nigeria international, who has impressed on loan this season.

Lookman, 24, has delivered eight goals since his move in August and Leipzig are demanding £14 million as he has two years left on his contract.

Rodgers is targeting at least six new signings this summer, but a deal for Lookman is far from certain as Leicester will have to sell before they can buy ahead of next season.

He said: “He is a young player I really like and he has done really well in his time here.

“We will discuss that over the coming weeks and if it’s possible I’d love to be able to do something because I think there is still growth in him.

“We just have to wait and see from a financial perspective if that’s something we can look to do.

“For our squad he gives us real healthy competition and challenges [Harvey] Barnes in that left-sided position because that’s where he’s at his best.

“He is the type of player that of course I’d like to have.”

Lookman was signed by RB Leipzig for £22.5million from Everton in July 2019 and spent last season on loan at Fulham.

Rodgers is prioritising a centre-half, creative midfielder and winger as part of his “shake-up” of the squad.

Funds are limited, however, with Leicester facing financial losses of over £90 million in their accounts for next year.

Leicester could still secure an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League this season, while they have also reached the semi-finals of the Uefa Europa Conference League.

Rodgers takes his team to Chelsea on Thursday night before concluding the campaign at home to Southampton this weekend.
