The streaming platform regularly updates a list of the top ten most-watched Netflix Original movies, based on the number of views in the first 91 days of the film’s release.
Apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind has claimed eighth place on the list, after being released in December.
Based on the novel by Rumaan Alam, the film stars the likes of Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali and Kevin Bacon.
Roberts and Hawke play couple Amanda and Clay, whose family holiday is disturbed by the owners of their rental home GH (Ali) and Ruth (Myha’la Herrold), who warn of mysterious blackouts and cyber attacks hitting the city.
As the threats grow, the four characters are forced to grapple with the idea of the collapsing world.
The film has so far generated 136.3 million views worldwide, with a total of 322.6 million hours watched.
What is even more impressive is that the film has the potential to climb even higher on this list, as Leave the World Behind will only have reached 91 days on the platform in mid-February.
The movie is only 100,000 views behind its closest rival, Jennifer Lopez thriller The Mother, so there is every chance that it might achieve an even better position on the list.
The film followed an FBI profiler (Johnson) who partners with the world’s greatest art thief (Reynolds) to foil a heist by another art thief (Gadot) who is on the most-wanted list.
Also making the top three of all time are 2021 apocalyptic satire Don’t Look Up and another Ryan Reynolds film, 2022 sci-fi comedy The Adam Project.
Leave the World Behind is available to watch now on Netflix.
