NZ Warrior Russell Packer fined for urinating on field before game

NRL player Russell Packer sparked outrage when he was caught urinating on the turf at Lang Park during the NZ Warriors game against the Brisbane Broncos.

In the first half of their round 12 clash against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, just before kick off, viewers at home were left shocked when cameras showed Packer relieving himself, with his hands casually on his hips.

Packer later took to social media to respond to the onslaught of criticism that came his way during and after the match, but showed little remorse.

The NRL issued the Warriors with a $15,000 breach notice on Tuesday for the incident.

"This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and there is no excuse for it," NRL General Manager of Football Operations, Mr Nathan McGuirk, said in a statement.

It's not the first time a player has been caught in such a position.

In 1988, burly Sea Eagles prop Don McKinnon was fined $1000 for urinating on Lang Park.

All Black Jerry Collins was also guilty of the same thing before a Bledisloe Cup clash with the Wallabies in 2006.

It was the only downside to what was an otherwise positive night for the visitors, who posted a 56-18 win in Brisbane.
