Moylan named to play in Sharks' NRL trial

High-profile Cronulla signing Matt Moylan will get his first genuine run for his new NRL club after being named in a 31-man squad to face Manly in a trial.

Moylan is included in a depleted line-up alongside halves partner Chad Townsend and recruits Braden Uele, Ava Seumanufagai and Aaron Gray for Saturday's hit-out.

Regular starters Valentine Holmes, Sosaia Feki and Jayden Brailey also get a run, however missing will be skipper Paul Gallen, Josh Dugan, Andrew Fifita and Wade Graham.

Coach Shane Flanagan also named son Kyle and fellow halves back-up Trent Hodkinson.

Earlier on Thursday, Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson opted to keep big-name signing Cooper Cronk on ice after naming an understrength squad for Saturday's trial against Penrith.

Cronk headlines a long list of stars missing for the match, including a sick James Tedesco, co-captains Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend, Latrell Mitchell and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Regular starters Blake Ferguson, Isaac Liu, Ryan Matterson and Dylan Napa will play, while Reece Robinson will also make his first club showing in his return from rugby union.
