Manly cap investigation takes bizarre twist

The salary cap investigation into the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles has taken a bizarre twist.

An 81-year-old grandmother has reportedly been caught up in the salary cap investigation, in relation to payments she made to the club's former star Kieran Foran.

Seven News reporter Liam Cox said Brenda Duchen's payments to Foran during his time at the Sea Eagles are being investigated, as the NRL are reportedly concerned about Manly's role in their facilitation.

She is reportedly a huge fan of the club and said she was only trying to help the club by personally sponsoring players.

Her favourite player is Kieran Foran and she reportedly invested a significant amount of money into the five-eighth through a trust fund during his time at the Northern Beaches club.

Her sponsorship of Foran was registered with the NRL and there is no suggestion whatsoever that Duchen has done anything wrong.

Cox reported that the only problem the NRL has with the sponsorship is in relation to the Sea Eagles, who they believe helped facilitate the third-party deal.

NRL clubs are forbidden from assisting with third party deals between sponsors and players.

The third-party deal was reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
