7th Tackle: The last of the pitch invaders

We don't have to go back too long - Josh Reynolds' farewell to Belmore - to re-visit rugby league's last full-blown pitch invasion.

But the fact is they're now virtually extinct in Australia.

Not so in PNG, where the Prime Minister's XIII will tackle the Kumuls in Port Morseby on Saturday.

Last year's game, also in the capital, saw 4000 fans flood the field straight after full time.

Officials put the lapse down to distracted security guards joining the Aussies on their lap of honour and taking selfies.

It only took one punter to breach the arena before chaos ensued, and the mayhem ratcheted up several levels when players decided to give away their boots and jerseys.

MORE 7TH TACKLE:

This weekend's game is being organised by the 2017 Rugby League World Cup committee, who are using it as a test run for the three tournament matches in PNG.

They have promised more security to avoid a repeat but those resources will be futile should a player decide to toss a pair of boots toward the crowd.
