Epic brain explosion leads to heartbreaking grand final loss

A women's league tag team has endured the most excruciating finish to a grand final ever seen.

The heartbreaking tale played out between West Wallsend and the Cardiff Cobrettes in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League Tier B Women's Grand Final.

With the final seconds running down on the clock, West Wallsend were sure they'd won the big game with a lead of 6-4.

However they failed to complete the final tackle after the siren, as one player thought the game was over and threw the ball up in celebration as the horn sounded.

While the girls from West Wallsend celebrated, one astute member of the Cobrettes, Bryden Sloan Harris, reacted immediately, grabbing the ball and scooting away down the sidelines.

"Is this play on!? This is play on!!!" The commentator exclaimed in disbelief as the incredible play unfolded.

Moments later the West Wallsend players realise the fatal error they've made, as they witness Harris scoring after the bell to snatch an 8-6 victory.

The Cardiff Cobras congratulated their players via their Facebook account.

"Due to the quick thinking and positive persistence of Bryden Sloan Harris, the team triumphed after one of the most mind boggling brain explosions you will ever see on the football field," the post read.

And while the Cobras are soaking up their unforgettable victory, the Wallsend players are trying their best to forget a game they should have won.

The premature celebration fail is reminiscent of a number of embarrassing moments we've seen in the world of sport in recent times.
