Knights to pay tribute to Hannah Rye

The Newcastle Knights will honour Hannah Rye with a touching gesture when they head to Canberra to face the Raiders tomorrow night.

Hannah, a 15-year-old Knights fan, died this week after battling the rare form of cancer Ewing sarcoma.

The Kurri Kurri high school student's story made headlines earlier this year when Newcastle halfback Trent Hodkinson escorted the terminally ill teenager to her formal.

"The Newcastle Knights are saddened by the loss of Hannah Rye this week," the club said in a statement.

"The club has offered support to Hannah's family and will continue to do so. The club will also continue to respect the family's privacy at this difficult time.

"Trent Hodkinson and the team will be wearing black armbands as a mark of respect when the Knights take on the Canberra Raiders this Friday night."

Newcastle will complete their NRL season at home against Cronulla on Sunday, September 2.
