7th Tackle: Back in a flash, but Gordon’s a big risk

Mick Gordon’s return from a pectoral tear after just six weeks is something of a medical marvel.

No-one in the game can recall such a swift recovery from such a serious injury.

In reality, Gordon and the Roosters are taking a huge gamble. The veteran fullback will need to wear a special brace to prevent hyper-extension, which would most likely spell disaster.

We’ve been told the brace will even have to be removed – or loosened – to allow him to kick goals with his natural follow through.

The odds of him making it through up seven more games are dicey. But in the Roosters’ defence, this is a calculated punt.

At this ripe stage of his career and with chances to win a premiership running short, the 33-year-old is willing to take the chance.

Furthermore, if he is re-injured there still should be enough time for him to have reconstructive surgery and be fit for the start of next season.

Connor Watson has also proved a tremendous understudy at fullback, while Latrell Mitchell’s goal-kicking has surprised many at the club.
