Trent Hodkinson takes terminally ill fan to school formal

Newcastle Knights star Trent Hodkinson has melted hearts with an incredibly touching gesture for a young fan with cancer.

On Wednesday night Hodkinson escorted 15-year-old Hannah - a massive Knights fan - to her year 10 formal in Kurri Kurri.

Kurri Kurri High School brought the formal forward from the end of the year because Hannah has terminal Ewing sarcoma - a cancer found in the bones or soft tissue.

Hodkinson held Hannah's hand as they rode in the back of the car on the way to the formal before taking her arm as they walked inside.

He then helped her cut a cake at the event as everyone watched on in admiration.

"She was the star of the show, all her friends were cheering for her," Hodkinson said on Thursday.

"It was a great night, she did such a great job.

"It's such a good thing for Hannah and her family.

"Hopefully it can bring some awareness to the cancer she's going through."

Hannah's mother Rachel has since revealed that it was actually Hodkinson's idea to take Hannah to the formal.

"It was something he really wanted to do," Rachel told the Knights website.

"He's the sweetest man, and we love him.

"Tonight has been unbelievable and we've just seen so much love for Hannah.

"She'll never get another moment like this, and it's pretty special."

Hodkinson hasn't had the best year on the field, dropped to reserve grade for a large portion of the season despite the Knights languishing in last place on the ladder.

But this incredible gesture just goes to show the kind of person he is. Take a bow Trent.
