7th Tackle: NRL and players break bread

Spotted in Brisbane on Tuesday night: NRL boss Todd Greenberg finally coming to the table to discuss the next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Our Queensland spies report Greenberg and his right hand man, Nick Weeks, had a very tasty dinner at the famous Riverside steakhouse, Cha Cha Char, with their adversaries from the RLPA.

In a bid to strike a deal as soon as possible, the players' union was keen to convince the pair to lock-in for a five-day negotiation next week.

The NRL has taken that request on notice, but what does appear likely is that Greenberg will become more involved in future negotiations with players.

He's been heavily criticised for not doing so thus far and his hard-talking negotiator has won no admirers among the players.

But even after Tuesday night's get together, the NRL and RLPA still remain in stubborn disagreement on the main issue at steak (excuse the pun) - revenue sharing.
