7th Tackle: Edrick's unwanted Quaddie of bombed tries

They say bad luck comes in threes . . . but flamboyant winger Edrick Lee took the dreaded adage a step further last weekend.

Now with the Sharks, the former Raiders flyer has earned himself the nickname ‘Edrick Scissorhands’ on social media thanks to not one, not two, not three, but FOUR . . . bombed tries over the past nine months.

Canberra fans won’t appreciate us reminding them of the first two; dropped balls with the stripe begging at crucial moments during last year’s finals series.

The first came against his current club, Cronulla, in the qualifying final.

The second will not be forgotten in a hurry – an unforgivable spill against the Storm in the preliminary final that proved the difference in a tight game.

Unfortunately the move to Sydney’s south has done nothing to reverse Lee’s fortunes.

Not only has he played most of the season with Cronulla’s reserve grade outfit, Newtown, he’s also cost the Jets dearly on two more occasions.

The first came in April, with his team trailing competition leaders Wyong by three points in the dying stages.

Lee took an intercept and was certain to score . . . until he inexplicably dropped the ball with no defender in sight.

Then last Saturday against Wests Tigers he crossed for what should have been the match-equaling try – only to casually flop to the grass – giving opposition five-eighth Jack Littlejohn the chance to hold him up.

In fairness, we should point out that he won a game for Newtown in between those two howlers with a last-minute intercept against the Bears.

But otherwise we’re sorry Edrick . . . we just couldn’t resist!
