Hayne Plane to return to Parra in 2018?

Jarryd Hayne's management are reportedly gauging the interest of the Parramatta Eels to take back their favourite son.

Just a day after reports that Hayne has been an increasingly disruptive influence among the Gold Coast Titans playing group, the superstar fullback is seemingly looking for greener pastures.

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that Hayne's representatives met with Eels officials last week, in an attempt to entice them to sign Hayne for next season.

While the 29-year-old is currently contracted to the Gold Coast, he has an option in his favour for season 2018, meaning he can walk away at season's end.

The major issue for him however is that he is likely to make nowhere near the $1.2 million-per-season he currently earns if he choses to walk away from the club.

Reports suggest the Eels would only be able to muster up a contract which comes up about $400,000 short of that mark per year.

Meanwhile his coach Neil Henry said on Tuesday he was hopeful Hayne would stay but the fullback star was entitled to explore his options.

"He can do it and, as (Titans chief executive) Graham Annesley said, he's got the option his way - it's up to him to exercise that," Henry said.

Hayne has until the end of next month to decide whether to take up the option to leave the Gold Coast, and Henry accepts speculation will continue until then.

"I hope he stays here," Henry said.

"He showed glimpses of what he could do last weekend and I think he's been out in public saying he's got a desire to play rep football."

The timing of these reports make perfect sense, after News Corp journalist Paul Kent revealed the playing group is growing frustrated by Hayne on the glitter strip.

"Neil (Henry) likes to coach a certain way, and that is that every man is equal and if one guy doesn’t do his job then he’s let down the team so the team suffers," Paul Kent told Triple M.

"The players are the meat in the sandwich here because you’ve got Neil on one side and Jarryd Hayne, who’s a noted superstar, on the other.

"When Jarryd doesn’t quite do what he’s required to do at training, Neil says everyone is going to do extras at training and they’re all going to get punished for it.

"It’s starting to annoy the players because from their point of view, they see themselves doing extra work because Jarryd has caused it, and they’re tired of that happening, and they’re also tired of the fact that it’s not changing.

"Jarryd doesn’t care, so that’s the issue with the players as well."

Kent also shed some light on the fullback's contract situation, which could be causing further tension at the Gold Coast club.

"This is where it’s going to become an issue and it’s going to have to be delicately managed now by Neil Henry and by the Titans because Jarryd won’t go anywhere else," Kent said.

"Jarryd’s got an option. He’s got until the end of the month to give the Titans a decision. The option is in his favour, so if he wants to stay at the Titans, he takes up the option.

"If he wants to go elsewhere, he can do that, but there’s been no interest from other clubs about getting Jarryd on the price tag he’s got."

Helping Hayne's situation is his ability to continue to perform well under pressure, even if he isn't training for it.

He showed glimpses of his best football to win man of the match in the Titans' 16-12 victory over the Sharks on Saturday.

Meanwhile Eels players at training on Tuesday were reluctant to talk on the matter before the likes of coach Brad Arthur or chief executive Bernie Gurr addressed it.

"He's a class athlete," forward Nathan Brown said. "But it's not up to us players. It's up to Brad Arthur, Bernie and the board."

Hayne was interested in returning to Parramatta at the end of last year, and admitted as much after they couldn't match the Titans' offer last August.

But it's understood there is a feeling the Eels have moved on and may not really go after Hayne, who last played for the club in 2014, winning the Dally M Medal that year.

They have an up-and-coming fullback in 21-year-old Bevan French, who has impressed since moving to the back at the end of last season.

They also have halves Corey Norman and Mitchell Moses locked in for next year.

Hayne would likely want the No.1 on his back, and there are also question marks if they would be willing to match his price tag if they were to play him elsewhere.
