Milford freaks out over cruel snake prank

Broncos teammates played a cruel but hilarious prank on Anthony Milford to reward the playmaker for his match-winning display against South Sydney.

Milford's controversial drop goal proved the difference in the 25-24 thriller against the Rabbitohs on Friday night, but it didn't spare him from becoming the centre of a mean practical joke.

'I CAUGHT IT': Milford insists drop goal was legitimate

The five-eighth clearly has a fear of snakes and the fact was brutally exposed by teammate Josh McGuire after the final whistle.

The Broncos big man was seen holding a pet python in the sheds after the game while Milford was taking a shower in another part of the change rooms.

Why he had a snake and where he got it from were both unclear, but what he intended to do with it became glaringly obvious after the camera followed him into the showers.

As soon as Milford caught a glimpse of the slithery pet, he absolutely freaked out, trying in vain to find a corner of the open shower block where he could hide.

McGuire and other Brisbane players could be heard laughing wildly as Milford ran from side to side pleading for someone to take the snake away.

Milford was at the centre of several dramatic incidents in his side's one-point win over the Rabbitohs, including his 78th minute one-pointer which sealed victory for Wayne Bennett's team.

South Sydney coach Michael Maguire was left seething after Milford appeared to bobble the ball in the lead-up to slotting the winning field goal.

The livewire five-eighth was forced to bend low to the ground and appeared to momentarily lose control of the ball, with some suggesting it touched the turf, but Milford said he was unfazed by the controversy and insisted he had maintained control.

"There was no doubt in my mind I caught that ball on the field goal," he said.

"I didn't hit that as sweet as I could, but the main thing is it went over.

"I caught it. And if I dropped it I wouldn't have hit it. I wouldn't even try to snap it."

Maguire and Souths skipper Sam Burgess again questioned the performance of the referees and bunker after Moga crossed to even up the scores 11 minutes from fulltime.
