Tigers captain Woods set to sign with Bulldogs

Aaron Woods is set to leave Wests Tigers at the end of the season to link up with the Canterbury Bulldogs, 7 News understands.

Woods is the latest domino to fall in new Tigers coach Ivan Cleary's bid to re-sign the club's so-called 'big four' of the skipper, halves Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks and fullback James Tedesco.

Moses remains at Concord despite his attempts to force a release to Parramatta, where he will play from 2018, while injured halfback Luke Brooks re-signed with the Tigers earlier this week.

Woods took over as captain ahead of the 2016 season after hooker Robbie Farah left the club but has now decided to link up with Bulldogs coach Des Hasler.

The 26-year-old prop made his Wests Tigers debut in 2011 and quickly became a favourite of fans and coaches.

A Leichhardt junior, he progressed up the ranks and made his State of Origin debut for New South Wales in 2013.

But Woods has not played finals football since 2011, with the joint-venture club finishing no higher than ninth on the NRL ladder in the past five seasons.

Hasler only recently sorted his future as coach of the Bulldogs, re-signing for two years despite an up-and-down start to the season.

Canterbury have experienced a sustained run of success under the Manly premiership-winning coach.

The Bulldogs reached the 2012 grand final in his first year in charge and made it back for the 2014 decider, though they lost both.
