Semi Radradra finally confirms NRL exit

Semi Radradra finally confirms NRL exit

After a 2016 season marred by speculation and mismanagement, Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra has finally confirmed he will leave the NRL.

Parramatta said in a statement on Wednesday night that the 24-year-old had signed with French rugby side Toulon.

Radradra's Toulon contract begins with the 2017-18 season and includes an option for 2018-19.

The winger remains contracted to Parramatta for 2017 and the club says he will play out the NRL season in blue and yellow despite the European rugby season kicking off in August.

Confirmation of the deal ends a long-running saga that spanned most of 2016.

Toulon announced in November that they had signed Radradra, only for the player's manager to deny a formal contract had been signed.

Parramatta still hoped to tempt Radradra into re-signing but conceded that they couldn't compete with the reported $1.5 million offered by Toulon.

"In early December 2016 the Parramatta Eels indicated our wish to keep Semi at our club by making a very attractive offer to Semi," the club said.

"The offer from Toulon was substantially higher than our club’s offer."

Radradra has endured a controversial past 12 months both on and off the rugby league field.

Two years after playing for Fiji, the country of his birth, Radradra made his debut for the Australian Kangaroos in the Anzac Test against New Zealand in May last year.

He then played through a stop-start season that included domestic violence charges being laid against him.

Radradra failed to appear in court in November, instead travelling to Fiji to care for his father.

Following his return to Sydney he was forced to surrender his passport and ordered not to leave Australia.

Radradra is due back in court on February 13.
