Benji's apology to Dragons fans

Benji Marshall has signed off his time with the St George Illawarra Dragons with an emotional Instagram post in which he apologised to fans for a lack of results on the field.

Marshall helped the struggling outfit to a finals appearance in 2015 but otherwise struggled to find the form that saw him with a title with the Wests Tigers in 2005.

The five-eighth, who was forced to play halfback at the Dragons, played 54 games for the club after returning from Super Rugby midway through 2014.

"What an honour it has been to wear the jersey of such a great club #redv," Marshall said.

"Just want to say thank you to @nrl_dragons club, coaching staff, sponsors and more importantly the fans for giving me the opportunity and lifeline to come back and play this great game.

"I will be forever grateful for that chance.

"I am personally sorry for the results on the field this year and the part I played in that.

"But I’m glad I could be a part of last year’s team in making the finals for the first time in 4 years which was a highlight for me.

"A big thank you to all the players that I played with and trained with over the years as you guys have made my time at the club very enjoyable and memorable."

Marshall is yet to secure a playing contract for next season but is thought to be keen on continuing his career.
