Gagai scores stunning Origin try to break open Game II

Just when it looked like nothing was going to separate the Maroons and Blues at halftime in Game II, Dane Gagai came up with a truly special Origin try.

The Queensland winger pounced on a loose ball inside his own 20 metre line when it looked more likely that New South Wales was going to grab the game’s first 4-pointer.

Showing no signs of the thigh injury that had overshadowed his Origin build-up, the Newcastle flyer shrugged off the attentions of the chasing Blues players, and sprinted the best part of 80 metres before crossing in the right corner.

Not to be outdone, Johnathan Thurston added the sideline conversion for good measure, to give the Maroons a 10-4 lead at halftime.
