Burgess apologised to McQueen over Souths exit

Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess says he can't wait for his much-anticipated return to the NRL this weekend.

Burgess will head north with the Bunnies to take on the Gold Coast in a pre-season trial game.

"It took me a while to get back up to speed but I'm feeling fit again", Burgess said.

There's immense pressure on the Englishman to return Souths to the premiership force they were when he left as Clive Churchill Medallist.

The prized recruit doesn't control the salary cap but was still good enough to call Chris McQueen to clear the air after the back rower was squeezed out of the club.

"It wasn't his fault," McQueen said. "He wanted to let me know that he was sorry the way things worked out."

"I just wanted to ring him as a friend just to see how he was going," Burgess said.
