Mohun Bagan will be eyeing the full three points when they take on bottom-placed Shillong Lajong FC at home on Sunday.
The Green and Maroons shrugged off their Kolkata Derby blues by beating Minerva Punjab FC away from home in their last match. The win helped them to move up in the league table. They currently have 12 points from eight matches and are six points behind leaders Chennai City.
Sankarlal Chakraborty’s men are yet to register a win at home this season. Out of the four matches they have played in Kolkata, Mohun Bagan have lost two and draw two.
They will be desperate to seek redemption at their home ground on Sunday against a struggling Shillong Lajong side.
Chakraborty made a tactical tweak in their last match. He changed the formation of the side to 4-2-3-1 from 4-4-2. Ugandan striker Henry Kisekka was brought to the left flank and Omar Elhusseiny was used as a number 10 behind lone striker Aser Pierrick Dipanda.
The change in the formation worked for the Kolkata club. Also, Kisekka’s ability to create chances prompted Sankarlal to play him as a winger.
Sony Norde, Pintu Mahata and Sukhdev are yet to recover from their injuries and will not take part in Sunday’s clash. But good news for them is that Eze Kingsley will be back in the defence after serving a one-match suspension due to his red card in the derby.
Shillong Lajong have had a terrible season so far in the I-League. After starting the season with a win over Aizawl FC, the all Indian squad of Lajong have lost the plot.
The inexperience is coming as a major hindrance to coach Alison Kharsyntiew. The young Indian players of Lajong are yet to get adjusted with the quality of the top tier football.
They will hope to get at least a point away from Mohun Bagan or else they will continue languishing in the relegation zone.
Can Mohun Bagan register their first win in Kolkata this season or will the youngsters from Shillong take a point away from the giants?
