Adapted from Dan Ariely's bestseller Predictably Irrational, this one is primed for release on Monday, September 25, at 10pm in the US and centres around Martin's professor as he's assigned various high-stakes cases involving law enforcement, government and corporations.
Mercer's uncustomary way of understanding human behaviour leads him and the team on a series of intense journeys to solve mysteries.
In the first trailer (above), Mercer announces to his latest colleagues: "I was brought in because I know people and why they do inexplicable things," before suggesting that "people are irrational, but predictably so - one error of judgment leads to another".
Things will take a drastic turn, however, when he meets his match in the shape of a female domestic terror suspect.
According to a synopsis, Hot Flush follows "five women of a certain age who come together to create a makeshift, butt-of-the-joke punk-rock band in order to enter a talent contest", and come to discover that they have way more to say than they initially believed.
Wainwright herself commented: "I've been wanting to write a series like this for a long time. It's a celebration of women of a certain age, and all the life-stuff they suddenly find themselves negotiating/dealing with. The show is also my own personal homage to Rock Follies of '77, and the feisty Little Ladies who woke me up to what I wanted to do with my life when I was 13."
