Lauren James withdraws from England squad with calf injury

Lauren James has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming pair of October international friendlies.

James, 23, was named in the starting line-up for Chelsea’s Champions League game with FC Twente on Thursday before being replaced after the warm-up by Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

It has been confirmed that James has picked up a calf injury and will now remain with her club to undergo treatment.

James had been handed a recall by England manager Sarina Wiegman after missing the European Championship 2025 qualifiers in July due to injury.

Wiegman is not expected to call up a replacement at this time, with the 24-player squad set to join up at St. George’s Park on Monday.

James has made 24 appearances for her country since making her debut against Austria in a World Cup qualifier back in September 2022.

England face Germany at Wembley Stadium on Friday, October 25 before taking on South Africa at Coventry Building Society Arena, the home of Coventry City, four days later.
